Origin of the word anchovy.
The word anchovy comes from the Genoese anchova, from the Latin apua (small fish) from the Greek aphye [small fry; Gr.: αφύη].

In modern Greek (Romeika)
a) anchuyia: anchovy [Gr.: αντσούγια; loanword]
